Discover Cahors Malbec – The Original Home of Malbec Wine

Just 15–45 minutes from Larroque Haute Gîtes lies one of France’s most underrated wine regions: Cahors, the ancestral home of Malbec.

With dramatic river bends, limestone plateaux, and family-run estates, Cahors AOC wines offer bold, elegant character and a true taste of the Lot. A perfect day out for wine lovers, romantics, and anyone curious about French viniculture.

What Makes Cahors Malbec Special?

Cahors Malbec is:

  • Made from at least 70% Malbec grapes (locally called Côt or Auxerrois)

  • Known for its deep colour, bold tannins, and ageing potential

  • Grown on limestone terraces and riverbanks, creating distinct terroirs

  • Often blended with Merlot or Tannat for softness or spice

  • Recognised globally, but still refreshingly affordable

Fun fact: Argentine Malbec may be famous, but it traces its roots to this region.
