Just 15–45 minutes from Larroque Haute Gîtes lies one of France’s most underrated wine regions: Cahors, the ancestral home of Malbec.
With dramatic river bends, limestone plateaux, and family-run estates, Cahors AOC wines offer bold, elegant character and a true taste of the Lot. A perfect day out for wine lovers, romantics, and anyone curious about French viniculture.
Cahors Malbec is:
Made from at least 70% Malbec grapes (locally called Côt or Auxerrois)
Known for its deep colour, bold tannins, and ageing potential
Grown on limestone terraces and riverbanks, creating distinct terroirs
Often blended with Merlot or Tannat for softness or spice
Recognised globally, but still refreshingly affordable
Fun fact: Argentine Malbec may be famous, but it traces its roots to this region.
