Discover What the Seasons Bring

Natural Treasures Across the Grounds

Wander through our gardens and woodland and see how the landscape changes throughout the year.

Cooler Months

Woodland Mushrooms

During the cooler and wetter months, the forest floor can come alive with a remarkable variety of fungi. Exploring the woodland and photographing their different colours, shapes and textures can be a fascinating seasonal experience.

Autumn

Sweet Chestnuts & Walnuts

In autumn, chestnut burrs and walnut shells appear along the woodland paths. Subject to availability and permission, small quantities can be gathered and prepared in your fully equipped gîte kitchen.

Throughout the Seasons

Seasonal Fruits

Depending on the time of year, the grounds may offer berries, orchard apples and other seasonal fruits. Enjoying fruit close to where it grows is a simple pleasure and a lovely expression of slower country living.

A Natural Escape

Experience the Woodland at a Slower Pace

Exploring the property is about much more than gathering ingredients. It is an opportunity to walk mindfully, notice the changing seasons and become immersed in the sights, sounds and scents of the woodland.

You might discover a carpet of autumn leaves, hear birds moving through the canopy or notice fruits and fungi that would be easily missed on a hurried walk.

Whether you hope to find seasonal ingredients for a self-catered meal or simply want to enjoy a peaceful walk, the grounds provide a serene escape into the natural world.

The real pleasure lies in slowing down, looking closely and enjoying whatever the season chooses to reveal.

Protecting Our Natural Environment

Forage Gently and Responsibly

Our grounds are shared with wildlife, so we ask guests to explore carefully and leave plenty for nature.

Ask Before Picking

Please speak to Carl or Tara before collecting fruit, nuts, mushrooms or plants from anywhere on the property.

Take Only a Little

Gather only small quantities for personal use and leave plenty behind for wildlife, regeneration and other guests to enjoy.

Respect the Grounds

Stay on safe routes, avoid damaging plants and habitats, and never disturb wildlife or remove protected species.

Important Mushroom Safety

Never eat a wild mushroom unless its identity and safety have been confirmed by a suitably qualified mushroom expert. Some poisonous mushrooms closely resemble edible varieties, and photographs, mobile applications and online searches are not a safe substitute for expert identification.

Larroque Haute Gîtes does not identify mushrooms or guarantee that any mushroom, plant, nut or fruit found on the property is safe to eat. Guests collect and consume wild produce entirely at their own risk and are responsible for checking allergies, safe preparation and current health guidance.

If there is any uncertainty, leave the mushroom where it is and enjoy observing or photographing it instead.
